If you are lucky to enough to witness starlings (and other birds) performing their murmuration, it is the most wonderful, amazing and magical experience.
This series of linocut monoprints is inspired by this phenomenal spectacle. I wanted to try and create the impression of movement and the ever changing shapes they create. To achieve this I've used lots of little pieces of carved lino and overlapped and overlayed them with different hues of blue. It's quite a time consuming process of inking up each individual piece and laying them on the press in different formations...but it means each print is different; no two will ever be the same...hence creating monoprints.
As you can see in the photos, I have put a small number in the bottom right hand corner of each main photo, for ease of ordering the correct print.
Your print will arrive carefully protected in cellophane with a backboard to support it. They are all printed on A3 paper. I have used a combination of two papers: 80gsm acid-free Japanese Simili paper which is an off white/ivory colour, beautifully smooth and fairly fine, and also acid and chlorine-free 110gsm white, rougher, Gerstaecker Paper and being pH neutral offers excellent conservation over time.
PLEASE NOTE: This is a handmade print and is not a digital reproduction. You are buying an original piece of artwork which has been handprinted.
Whilst every care is taken in photographing the artwork please be aware that colours can vary according to your monitor settings. All copyright remains with the artist.
